How to Create Unforgettable Experiences in Commercial Space Design

The perceptual effects of spatial design have an impact on people. A good spatial experience, whether it involves increasing interaction or sensory stimulation, can enhance customer flow and strengthen the brand’s influence.

Space is fixed and immovable, but the atmosphere created within a space is dynamic and can be perceived by consumers.

When it comes to experiencing a space, people evaluate it from five dimensions: color, light, sound, temperature, and taste. How can we eliminate ordinariness and create profound and unforgettable memories of commercial space through subtle sensory experiences? This can be achieved through narrative design, scene creation, and cultural and memory embedding, to create a unique immersive experience.

1、Narrative Design:

Using narrative design techniques in a space connects the space with consumers’ emotions. By creating stories, events, and behaviors through the mindset of spatial carriers and then deconstructing and reorganizing them, a unique narrative space can be achieved.

In the TOD project, the evolution history of modern transportation serves as the starting point of the story. The constantly rotating “wheels” are the visual focus of the space, creatively inspired by trains and clocks. Karv One Design breaks through the concept of “Light Year” by cleverly combining the theme of a “moving train” with changing curves, immersive light art installations, and multimedia content to shape a deeply engaging sensory experience.

 2、Scene Creates Atmosphere:

Shaping the atmosphere of a scene can create the necessary storytelling ambiance, whether it be tense or soothing. Atmosphere creation can evoke emotions in people, allowing them to quickly engage with the storytelling within the space.

In The Lab, Karv One Design effectively combines different dimensions of design such as brand, interior, digital multimedia, and thematic displays to create a transcendent scene experience through content integration into the scene, featuring “galaxy” themed ceilings, “Interstellar” visual themes, and “Inspiration Cabin” experiential platforms.

3、Space as a Carrier of Memory:

In certain scenarios, space carries the dimension of time, summarizing stories that once occurred within it. Some details may still hold memories of the past. This transforms the space into a vessel that preserves stories, allowing people to re-experience the narrative context when they revisit this space. The space transitions from a passive storytelling vessel to an active narrator, providing a more seamless immersive spatial experience.

In a tractor factory built in 1958, Karv One Design preserves the spatial arrangement of the original brick wall architecture, incorporating a massive dome structure that follows the factory’s framework. By integrating concise architectural language into this space along with dynamic staircase installations, they create a visually striking and spatially layered experience. The cultural fortress in the “old times” of the bookstore evokes emotional memories.

Furthermore, enhancing experiential window displays, swiftly creating a commercial atmosphere through symbolic designs, and precisely designing every part of the commercial space, including building facades, interactive installations, indoor and outdoor landscapes, seating in rest areas, and lighting, all invisibly contribute to the creation of the space’s atmosphere through the designers’ skillful designs.
