“Homeland’s Magic” – Let Children be the Designers

A decent space for children should be in line with the children’s perspective, and children are the masters of the space. Studying the perspective of children makes the spatial design more popular among children and can also encourage children’s creativity and aesthetics.

Children are naturally curious and exploratory about the environment around them and have their own unique understanding and knowledge of a space. Participatory design is a new trend in the creation of children’s spaces: communicating with children, further participating in hands-on activities, and encouraging children to join in creation.

In “Homeland,” designed by Karv One Design, ideas inspired by children’s participatory design are everywhere.

The tangram room needs to be colored with imagination

The inspiration of this space comes from the “tangram” of our childhood. The raised area and the slide are both inspired by the “tangram”. This clever design lies in the fact that the bookshelves, exhibition stands, walls, and display decorations are all visualized in white color, letting children color the space in their mind with imagination. Everyone’s imagination is different. For adults, this can be regarded as a spiritual room, which can be filled with memories.

From “user” to “creator”, let children be the designers

Every child has a beautiful dream in his heart. The hand-painted ceiling of the space encourages children to become designers of the space. The patterns hand-painted by children develop the prototypes of chandeliers. The sun, clouds, rainbows, musical notes, and childhood paper airplanes are interesting and associative discoveries. In addition, the designer spent two months testing numerous materials and lighting effects to best perform the spatial experience.

Autonomous exploration makes the space full of interactive fun

A multifunctional interactive area is designed for children. Here, the designers choose to design a dreamy space. This spatial design is inspired by “Alice in Wonderland”. The fairy-tale-like installations, the uniquely shaped trees, the tree-sized squirrels, and the interactive spiral staircase allow children to explore curiously and interact with this space.

The abstract bookshelves, tables and chairs, and walls are like installations in this space, building a castle for learning. The adorable tables, chairs and toys that carry childhood memories are neatly scattered in the space, leaving a large space for activities. The blend of communication, learning and playing is the way for children to grow.
